Pretoria Girls Club
The Girls' Club provides activities, which foster total development of the person by helping the girls to make good use of their leisure time and guiding them in their studies.
The Club is a project of Komati Foundation Women Development (KFWD).
Komati is a non profit organisation established to contribute to South Africa's on going transformation in the fields of education, human development, youth policy and social welfare. KFWD is a special comitee of Komati Foundation that deals specifically with the empowerment of women and families. VISION: to empower girls and women with the life skills to achieve economic independence. MISSION: with a Christian ethos, Komati tries to facilitate knowledge, education, and skills which enable women to access and mobilise resources.
Young women have a unique contribution to make in building a more human society. The CLUB is arrear of this, and aims to provide them with the encouragement and guidance they need to discover their talents and become leaders.
Parents dedicate time, effort, and creativity to developing the club activities and a plan for character development. At the CLUB, the girls find high goals, lasting friendships, and dedicated guidance. CLUB motivates them to use their talents in order to lead and serve others at home, school and in the community.
Aware of the spiritual dimension of cultivating virtues, leadership skills, and strong interpersonal relationships, the club is inspired by the Christian understanding of the person and by the work with young people carried out by Saint Josemaria Escriva, Founder of Opus Dei. Opus Dei (http://www.opusdei.org/), a personal prelature of the Catholic Church, encourages people to practice human and Christian virtues in their families, their work and their friendships.
CLUB activities and themes emphasise the development of personal talents and skills, the pursuit of excellence in study and work, and the generous gift of self to others. Talks and Catechism classes encourage the daily practice of Christian virtues. Through the formation imparted and the interaction with others, the girls: grow confident in their faith, learn about character development, have the opportunity to put virtues into action, become leaders among their peers.
Activities are open to girls of all races, social backgrounds and creeds.
The CLUB offers:
* a program of ordinary and extra-curricular activities which are divided according to age groups
* activities that are directed to parents: Conferences, Family Days...
* personal tutorials: the tutors have frequent interviews with the parents about their daughters, with the aim of collaborating with their holistic growth
* an enjoyable ambiance of friendship where their inner qualities are greatly valued.
